On May 25th, Friends of Nepal joined hands with Lincoln School's 8th and 9th grade classes to provide 35 household buckets of emergency relief supplies to families in Sankhu.
Sankhu is an ancient city approximately 15 km northwest of Kathmandu. An estimated 90% of buildings in Sankhu have been destroyed or badly damaged in the earthquakes of April 25th and May 12th.
In partnership with local NGO Justice For All, Friends of Nepal facilitated the distribution of Lincoln School's relief supplies. Thank you to the 8th and 9th grade students (and teachers/advisors) for being compassionate and engaged community members!
Also, thank you to We Hep Nepal/ Friends of Nepal volunteers: Naryan Bell (LS '08), Sushant Bhattarai (LS '05), Peter Gill (LS '05), Anne McGuinness (LS '05), Felix van Riessen, and Doug Adhikari.
Relief aid, while well intentioned, often ends up in the pockets of corrupt local bureaucrats and/or multinational contracts, with very little reaching the people that actually need it. Ensure that your contributions reach those in need.
